On Why Blame Will Take You Down

I have a total brain crush on author and Jungian  analyst, James Hollis. I’ve been reading all of his books and his words are like golden nectar, tendrils of truth sliding down my gullet. I’ll just toss out a spin off thought.

Have you ever noticed how blaming someone else for, let’s see, anything in your life only keeps you stuck? Immobilized and staring at the very thing you’re completely pissed about? And when it comes to blame, the easiest targets are the folks in closest proximity to us–our spouses. It’s a convenience thing, I guess, and a safety issue, too because we’re usually pretty sure that they can absorb a heaping dose of our negative waste without totally kicking us to the curb. But here’s the thing: As long as we blame someone else for our unhappiness, we will not get happy. It’s just not possible. Personal responsibility is where it’s at. For you and everybody around you–taking responsibility for your own feelings, mistakes and misgivings makes you a better friend, partner and parent. That’s what James Hollis says and I so agree–and not just because I’m obsessed with him in a nerdy, want-to-crawl-inside-his-mind kind of way.
